## What a VoIP phone system costs in Australia

*Three ways to run your business phones. Clear starting prices.*

Most VoIP pricing in Australia sits somewhere between $15 and $60 per user per month.

Our starting prices are published below. Where your setup changes the price, we say so - and quote it clearly.

Start by picking the shape that matches your business.

### Dialpad AI Connect

The all-in-one app. Calls, video, messaging and SMS with AI transcription and summaries built in. Best when the team works from anywhere and nobody misses the old comms cupboard.

**From $20 per user/month¹**

on annual billing, or $32 month to month with no lock-in

Live in 2 to 4 weeks.

- [See plans and full pricing](https://www.untangled.com.au/products/dialpad-ai-connect/)

### Cloud HBX

The managed PBX (PBX: Private Branch Exchange. The system that runs a business's phones and routes its calls.) replacement. Queues, hunt groups, hot desking and auto attendant, hosted and managed by us. Best for businesses with 5-50 users replacing a legacy system, especially across sites.

**Per user/month, quoted to your setup**

no lock-in; handsets, call channels and user count change the number, so we price it honestly

Live in 1 to 3 weeks.

- [See Cloud HBX](https://www.untangled.com.au/products/cloud-hbx/)
- [Speak to an Expert](https://www.untangled.com.au/speak-to-an-expert/)

### SIP Trunks

*SIP: Session Initiation Protocol, the standard for calls over the internet. A trunk is the line that connects your phone system to the phone network. SIP trunks are those lines, running over the internet instead of copper.*

Keep your PBX, drop the copper. Your compatible system connects to the cloud per call channel (One channel = one simultaneous call. Three channels means three calls at once.), and every number ports across. Best when the PBX still earns its keep.

**From $15 per channel/month plus call rates¹²**

or $35 per channel with local, national and mobile calls included

Live in 1 to 2 weeks.

### Not sure which one is you?

Have a PBX you like? **SIP Trunks.** Replacing an old system with 5-50 users? **Cloud HBX.** Want everything in one app? **Dialpad AI Connect.**

Still not sure? That is the 15-minute conversation we have every day. [Speak to an Expert](https://www.untangled.com.au/speak-to-an-expert/) or call [1800 886 996](tel:1800886996).

### Keep the handsets you have.

The cheapest switch is the one where most of your hardware stays on the desk. If your phones speak SIP, they will often work on the new system, and anyone who doesn’t need a desk phone can run their extension on the laptop or mobile they already carry.

Not every handset can be repurposed, so the first step is a compatibility assessment. Our [Hardware Repurposing](https://www.untangled.com.au/services/hardware/) service checks what you have, then moves and reconfigures the phones that can come across from an on-premise system.

If you’d rather start clean, we supply Poly and Yealink desk phones, pre-configured for the system you are moving to.

### Try it for free before you commit.

Dialpad monthly billing and Cloud HBX both run month to month with no lock-in. Start with a 14-day free trial of Dialpad, your numbers stay yours, and if it is not right, you’re free to leave.

**Month to month. Stay because you want to.**

## Why businesses come to us, and why they stay

**What our customers love:** support that answers and follows through · setups that just happen, numbers and all · people who know your name and your setup.

## What is VoIP?

VoIP, short for Voice over Internet Protocol, lets you make and take phone calls over your internet connection instead of a copper phone line.

VoIP, cloud phone system, hosted PBX, cloud PBX and PABX are mostly the same conversation held in different words, which is why three quotes can look like three different products. Hosted PBX usually means a managed system like Cloud HBX.

- **Calls over the internet.** Your calls run over the same connection the business already uses, so there is no separate phone line to keep alive.
- **Nothing in the comms cupboard.** For most setups the system runs in the cloud, so the box on the wall stops being something you own, maintain and eventually replace. If you have a PBX worth keeping, SIP trunks do the opposite on purpose.
- **Work from anywhere.** Your team can make and take calls on your main business number from home, from the car or from a site, and the caller cannot tell the difference.
- **Scales with you.** Adding a person takes minutes rather than a new line and a site visit. And moving office no longer means new numbers on the letterhead.

## Built for how your industry answers the phone

A dental practice losing new-patient calls to voicemail has a different problem from a law firm that needs every call recorded, or an agency where the whole office is at inspections on Saturday morning. We set VoIP up around the way your calls actually work.

- [Medical & Dental](https://www.untangled.com.au/industries/medical-dental/): New-patient calls answered, not lost to voicemail.
- [Law](https://www.untangled.com.au/industries/law/): Every call recorded and retrievable.
- [Real Estate](https://www.untangled.com.au/industries/real-estate/): Saturday inspections, calls still answered.
- [Finance](https://www.untangled.com.au/industries/finance/): Recording and retention, set up properly.
- [Accountants](https://www.untangled.com.au/industries/accountant/): Deadline season without phone chaos.
- [Hospitality](https://www.untangled.com.au/industries/hospitality/): Bookings answered while service runs.
- [Construction](https://www.untangled.com.au/industries/construction/): Site-to-office calls on any device.
- [Professional Services](https://www.untangled.com.au/industries/professional-services/): One number, every consultant reachable.

## When nobody can pick up

Auto attendants, ring groups and voicemail-to-email come standard, so the 5:47pm call still lands somewhere useful. And if you want every call answered by something smarter than voicemail, that is **Untangled AI Voice**, our Australian-voiced AI receptionist.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How much does a VoIP phone system cost in Australia?

Across the market, business VoIP typically runs between $15 and $60 per user per month depending on features and support. Our published pricing starts at $20 per user per month for Dialpad AI Connect on annual billing, or $32 month to month, both ex GST. SIP Trunks start at $15 per channel per month plus call rates. Cloud HBX is quoted per user because handsets and call channels change the number.

### Is VoIP cheaper than a landline?

For most businesses, yes, once you count line rental, per-call rates and hardware maintenance rather than just the headline plan price. The bigger difference is usually flexibility: adding users takes minutes instead of new lines, and moving office does not mean new numbers.

### What is the difference between VoIP, a cloud phone system and hosted PBX?

Mostly vocabulary. VoIP is the technology: calls over the internet. A cloud phone system or hosted PBX (or cloud PBX, or PABX) is a phone system built on VoIP and run in the cloud. If you are comparing providers using different words for the same thing, this page and a 15-minute call will untangle it.

### Do we keep our phone numbers?

Yes. Number porting is part of every setup we do, including 1300 and local numbers. Porting runs in the background and your callers never notice the change.

### What internet connection does VoIP need?

A stable business-grade connection. Each concurrent call uses very little bandwidth, so most business NBN and fibre plans handle VoIP comfortably. Quality matters more than raw speed, and because we also do business NBN and fibre, we can quote the connection and the calls together when your current internet is part of the problem.

### What happens if the internet goes down?

Calls can be configured to fail over to mobiles, so an outage does not have to mean missed calls. And because we also do business NBN and fibre, the connection and the calls sit on one quote, not in two silos that blame each other.

### Do we need new handsets?

Not necessarily. Compatible SIP handsets usually carry across, and softphone apps turn laptops and mobiles into extensions at no extra hardware cost. If you want desk phones, we pre-configure business-grade Poly and Yealink handsets for Dialpad, Cloud HBX or SIP Trunks so they work out of the box.

### Are we locked into a contract?

Dialpad AI Connect on monthly billing and Cloud HBX are month to month with no lock-in. Annual billing on Dialpad plans trades a 12-month commitment for a lower rate, and that trade-off is stated on this page rather than discovered on an invoice.

### How fast can we be up and running?

Typical timelines: SIP Trunks 1 to 2 weeks, Cloud HBX 1 to 3 weeks, Dialpad AI Connect 2 to 4 weeks depending on plan and porting. Switching runs in four dated steps, agreed before anything is signed: quote, port plan, setup and testing alongside your existing lines, then go-live with the same team answering afterwards.

### What happens to fax machines, EFTPOS terminals and lift phones?

These legacy devices were built for copper and need their own plan: some move to internet-based equivalents, some need an adapter, and safety-critical lines like lift phones have specific rules. We ask about them in every quote so nothing important is left behind on a dead line.
